To his Excellency: Abe Lincoln
President of the United States
Sir

May I Respectfully hope to secure your Attention - and Influence to the following Statements.

By as I Believe by false Representations of Officers acting by the Authority of the Government;

I was induced to Enlist on the 29th of Sept. 1862 in the 64th Regt NY. Volenteers for the unexpired term of that Organization and it was under these Circumstances alone that I consented to become a Member of that Regt. With the distinct understanding as held out by the Officers and Public Notices I was sworn in as a Musician - at the Rate of $17.00 per month wich these Published Notices Backed, by the Statement of the Officers that this was the Monthly Wages authorized by the Administration.

I feel Sir that I have done my duty faithfully and have Honorably served the term for wich I was Pledged, and wich Expired the 13th day of November 1864 Co (?) B. I Soon found out that this must have been either a false statement or a misrepresentation as Regards the Monthly pay.

I feel therefore that I am Entitled to an Honorable discharge wich I have vainly endevord to procure by ____(? every honorable) means that I knew of and having failed, I beg Respectfully to Solicit your attention and influence in My Behalf as the last Resort and appeal to from an unjust servitude.

Anxiety on behalf of my Wife and very large family of Eleven children all sickly and of delicate Constitution and _____(?) and destitute Circumstances in wich they are all placed and wich my presence would in a great measure Remove and alleviate--Compells Me to appeal to your kindness & Generosity in procuring my Discharge--or if that be not in Your Jurisdiction too - at least put me in the ___ (? way) of doing so as I desire under all Circumstances to Act Honorably & legally.

I am Sir
Very Respectfully your Obt. Sert.
