Captain Julius B. Maltbie

Captain Julius Birdsey Maltbie

Julius Birdsey Maltbie: Julius was Captain, Co. C, 64th Regiment. He enlisted at age 39, on September 16, 1861, at Otto, Cattaraugus County, NY. He enlisted to serve 3 years and was mustered in as Captain, Co. C, December 10, 1861. He "must have been a man of considerable influence in Otto (Cattaraugus County, NY). Each Company was recruited by the person who became its Captain. Co. C was almost exclusively from Otto (a few from New Albion and Mansfield which are next door)." He was discharged on Sept. 24, 1862, possibly for disability as he had been ill and in the hospital at Fort Monroe.
