King Jerome Campbell

King Jerome Campbell: Company G, 64th Regiment, NY State Volunteers. King enlisted at Ithaca at age 41 years, to serve 3 years. He was mustered in as musician (drummer boy) on September 29, 1862. He was sent to the ranks, no date. He was mustered out with detachment on May 30, 1865, near Alexandria, VA.

King was was paid at a rate of $17.00 per month. King wrote a letter to President Lincoln stating that he had joined for the "unexpired term of that Organization" and that since the term had expired on November 13, 1864, he wanted to be discharged. The letter was written March 15, 1865 from Petersburg, VA. A copy of the rough draft of King's letter can be seen at: copy of original and the typed version can be seen at: typed version.

King was born March 24, 1822 and died May 15, 1878. He is buried in Wellsboro Cemetery, Wellsboro, Tioga County, PA. He m. on Aug. 8, 1843 to Charlotte Peterson, she b. April 13, 1823 and d. Aug. 3, 1892. They had 13 children, including 2 sets of twins. Children:
