Ephraim Russell

Ephraim Russell: Company F, 64th Regiment, NY State Volunteers. Ephraim enlisted at age 19 years. He enlisted at Cattaraugus on August 21, 1861 to serve three years. He was mustered in as Private on September 10, 1861; wounded in action December 13, 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA; promoted Corporal May 28, 1863; captured in action July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg, PA; paroled May, 1864; captured in action June 17, 1864 at Petersburg, VA, returned July, 1864; promoted Sergeant July 28, 1864; wounded in action August 25, 1864 at Reams Station, VA; mustered out September 9, 1864 near Petersburg, VA.

Ephraim was born July 8, 1842 in Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, NY. He was the son of John Peter and Eliza Russell. On March 2, 1864, he married Affie Smith. They had two children: Sadie who was born February 25, 1866 and died September 3, 1953 and Ernest B. who was born June 11, 1875.

He is buried in Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus, Cattaraugus Co., NY.
