Ephraim E. Brown : Company C, 64th Regiment, NY State Volunteers. Age 18 years, enlisted December 6, 1861 at Otto to serve three years; mustered in as Private on Dec. 9, 1861; promoted Corporal, December 29, 1862; Sergeant, October 15, 1863; wounded in action, May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, VA; discharged, December 5, 1864; again enlisted December 6, 1864; mustered out February 3, 1865 at Elmira, NY

"Eph" carved his own monument from stone on his property and this photo shows him standing next to it. He is buried in Englishville Cemetery, Plainfield Township, Kent County, MI.
