Dennis McCarthy
: Company B, 64th Regiment, NY State Volunteers. Dennis enlisted at Varrick at age 22 years. He enlisted to serve one year and was mustered in as Private on September 2, 1864. He was mustered out May 30, 1865 near Alexandria, VA.
Dennis was born in Ireland in 1844. He was married (1) on October 28, 1865 to Catherine McCarthy (dau. of Felix McCarthy and Margarette Hourigan), she born in Ireland ca 1839 and d. October 20, 1886 in Auburn, NY. He married (2) on August 15, 1891 to Hannah Donovan, she born in Ireland 1853/1855 and d. Feb. 4, 1942 in Auburn, NY. Both marriages took place at Holy Family Church, Auburn, NY. Dennis and Catherine had 8 children:
1. John, b. 1867 and d. May 8, 1871 in fireworks explosion
2. Jeremiah, b. 1868 and d. May 8, 1871 in fireworks explosion
3. Mary Penelope, b. Nov. 9, 1869, d. Aug. 1, 1949
4. Margaret, b. 1870, d. July 9, 1893; m. Louis Youtt
5. John George, b. Nov. 14, 1874, d. Feb. 13, 1919; m. Catherine Danahey and had 5 children
6. Jeremiah Albert, b. Sept. 8, 1876, d. Dec. 16, 1906
7. Katie, b. ca 1879, d. July 7,1879
8. Anna, b. Aug. 23, 1880, d. Aug. 30, 1880
Dennis died Sept. 30, 1896 at age 52. He is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn, Cayuga County, NY
