George Perkins

George Perkins : 64th Regiment, NY State Volunteers. Age, 20 years. Enlisted at Hartland, to serve three years and mustered in as Private, Company A, August 26, 1864; discharged for disability, October 17, 1865, at David's Island, New York Harbor.

He is buried in Montosa Cemetery, Barryville, Sullivan County, NY.

George was born in July 28, 1843 in Upton Pynes, Devon, England and left Plymouth, England in August 1856. At age 13 years, he was trained on the "HMS Impregnable" in the British Royal Navy as a "Boy Entrant" (he lied about his age as he was supposed to be 14 to join). He was also on the "HMS Alert" and was discharged June, 1858 as he was "invalided".

He immigrated to New York on February 29, 1860. (from Aspinwell, Panama on SS Baltic as a Seaman). He lived in New York (Kings County) and later Jersey City, NJ where he was a cooper and then owned a grocery store. He moved to Barryville, NY about 1908 and died there October, 1920.
